The Week Ahead – Dec 11-15

Posted: December 10, 2017

Families of James Hill,

Here are a few updates and reminders for the Week Ahead.

  • My apologies for not sending out the “10 Good Things” this past week. Will send one out next weekend!
  • Thank you to all those volunteers and supporters who made our book fair another success! A special thank you to Tamiko Hinze for her efforts in leading the Book Fair this year.
  • Our Angels program starts this week! Grab an angel off the trees (and this will include age and gender with interests) and purchase a gift to help give some of our families a needed boost this Christmas. Please grab an angel only if you are committed to buying a gift. Also, please remind your children not to grab an angel off the tree and leave it up to the adults to do this (so we can ensure that no angels go missing).
  • Our food drive continues this week. Please bring in any non-perishable food items to the foyer and place them in the boxes. These food items go directly to our families in the Angels program. Please check the expiry date on the items before donating. Thank you!
  • Our Christmas Concert is this Thursday with shows at 1:30 and 5:30. Ticket sales end tomorrow. The 5:30 show is sold out but there are still a small number of seats available for the 1:30 show. For those on the wait list for the 5:30 show, we will send out info on Monday evening.
  • The students will be going through another run-through of the concert on Monday afternoon with a dress rehearsal on Tuesday afternoon.
  • We will be participating in a “Hold and Secure” drill on Monday.  A “hold and secure” is whena hazard (usually of a security or threatening nature) is in the community neighbouring the school and securing people indoors will keep them safe. This is different than a lockdown drill. If your child has any questions after this drill, please let your child’s teacher know.
  • Hot lunch this Friday with hot dogs and Booster Juice.
  • Friday is a Pyjama Day.

IMPORTANT Information on Report Cards:

  • Last June, the majority of schools in Langley went to online report cards. We did not do this but will be doing this for this year. In order to view your child’s report cards online, you must have access to the  MYEDBC Family Portal
  • Information from the district on how to access the Family Portal:
    • Last year we started a pilot program to give parents access to student report cards online.  The District is moving away from paper report cards and this information will be shared electronically.  Parents should have received an email from MYEDBC with instructions on how to set up their account.  Parents will always be able to get a printed copy upon request from your school office. There are several benefits associated with being able to access this feature on MYEDBC for parents.  Family Portal will give parents access to check attendance, contact information is up to date, look at your child’s current and previous marks, student schedules, view report cards, and see term marks in progress – final marks are published to the Report Card.

      Assistance with your Parent Portal:

    • If you do not have login information or you have tried to logon and have been unsuccessful, please go to School District #35 website here and click on the Students & Parents top tab, choose MYEDBC Assistance form.  Fill out form with information and submit.
    • When logging on successfully you are not able to see all of your children. Please use the above link and specify children’s names and schools attached to
    • Clerical at your student’s school can check to see if you have previously logged on and provide you with your login information
    • Report cards for all students will be available to view on Monday, December 18, 2017.
    • Originally, District approved school calendars indicated that report cards for all schools (except: ACSS, LSS, Vanguard, DWPS, LFMS & LFAS) would be available to parents on Friday, December 15, 2017.  This is no longer possible as necessary and unforeseen updates to the MyEdBC system must be performed.  While the province-wide update is being carried out Friday, December 15 to Sunday, December 17, the MyEdBC system will be unavailable.  Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.

Kindergarten Registration

  • Kindergarten Registration Opens Monday, January 15, 2018
  • All children who will be five years old by December 31, 2018 (children born in 2013) are eligible for the Kindergarten program beginning September 4, 2018.  Registrations received after March 31, 2018 will be considered late.  Late registration may affect placement in your catchment school due to space limitations.

    • Proof of Age (Birth Certificate)
    • Proof of Canadian Citizenship or Permanent Resident Status must be provided for the parent (Canadian Birth Certificate, Canadian Citizenship Card, Canadian Passport, Landed Immigrant documentation, Permanent Resident documentation/cards)
