After some hard work over break by a community of staff, we have put together our JHE Story-Art Studio, which is now in use! We are very, very excited!
The design is a merge of a Reggio Emilia inspired approach with place-based learning and a literacy framework aligned with the First Peoples Principles of Learning and Universal Design for Learning (UDL).
This Story-Art Studio is a cozy and inspiring space filled with supplies from the local environment, dollar stores and thrift stores. The Story-Art Studio framework involves teachers and learners in a three-part sequence to share the learning: Inspire, Create, Share.
This non-traditional learning environment, where there is flexible seating, provides children easy access to supplies and learning materials that inspired and encouraged students to direct their own learning. The variety of mediums and vehicles available inspire students to create and demonstrate their learning enhancing students’ opportunities to create and share their learning deepening comprehension and understanding.
