May 12, 2019
Dear James Hill Families,
This week the sunshine provided lots of opportunities for students to get outside and move around! We had several fun events for our students, including Dr. Seuss Day in Mrs. Kazakoff’s class, soapstone carving in Mrs. Coffin’s class, Caine’s Arcade demonstrations in the gym with Miss Mostat’s class, and the Golden Boot finals for the grade 4 & 5 students.
Finally, we want to wish all our James Hill Elementary Moms and Grandmothers a very Happy Mother’s Day! Enjoy your special day and thank you for all you do for our students!
If your child is between grades 1-5 next year and you are not planning on attending James Hill in the fall, please email Mrs. Holyoak at firstname.lastname@example.org if you have not already notified the office. Thank you!
Track and Field:
Just a reminder that the JHE Track Meet will be on Thursday, May 16. We are still needing several volunteers to run stations so we can pull this event off for our students. If you are available to volunteer from 9:00-12:00 on Thursday, please sign up for a station using this online form: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c044aa8ae23abfa7-james
If you know your child will be away on May 16, please email Miss Maki to notify her so tryouts can be rearranged: email@example.com. Track practices will continue during lunch hours with Mr. Sheaff: Monday/Wednesday= grade threes; Tuesday: grade 4/5’s.
Welcome To Kindergarten: May 30
As noted in an email sent to kindergarten parents this week, current kindergarten students will be dismissed on Thursday, May 30 at 12:00 pm (reminder of the gradual entry we had in September 2018 that now allows for this early dismissal in May).
We will be hosting a Welcome to K afternoon for our incoming 2019-20 kindergarten families from 1:00-2:45 on May 30. Families of incoming Kindergartens will receive information shortly with the exact time for your child’s session. A Save the Date email was sent early last week.
If you have specific learning requests for your child for the 2019-20 year, you can email Mrs. Simonetto before Friday, May 17. Please note that we cannot take requests for specific teachers, but rather academic supports and environments that best suit your child’s learning needs. While we cannot ensure requests will be guaranteed, we do take them into consideration when making classroom placements. Thank you.
Spring has sprung! This Spring has been challenging for those that suffer from seasonal allergies. Itchy, watery eyes and sneezing can make it hard for students to focus in class. Please try to provide the necessary supports at the start of the day for your child. Bringing tissues, a water bottle, eye drops or other materials may help your child with these symptoms so they can be more comfortable throughout the day.
PAC News and Updates:
As our wonderful Fundraising Co-ordinator Deb Patchett is moving on, this position is available and is an extremely important one to fill. The planning and coordination of one of our main fundraisers (Entertainment Books in September) actually starts in May so we are looking to have this position filled ASAP. If this interests you, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
