Weekly Newsletter: June 17

June 17, 2019

Dear James Hill Families,

This week was a fun one at James Hill Elementary! Our grade fives attended Operation Waterproof at Al Anderson, our Kindergarten students visited the Aquarium, and lots of students are heading outside for unique learning opportunities!  We also had our LSS grad walk on Friday- it was so great to see these past JHE students in their caps and gowns!

Last Monday, Mrs. Lambert was honoured for her years of service teaching in the Langley School District, particularly at James Hill for many years. Mrs. Lambert will be retiring at the end of June. We celebrate this incredible milestone with her and wish her relaxation and adventure in her retirement! Mrs. Lambert will be very missed at James Hill for her caring and compassionate way with students and her commitment to athletics and sport for all kids. Happy Retirement, Mrs. Lambert!

Just a reminder to students now that the summer weather is here, please make sure you wear a helmet to school when bringing a bike or scooter. Also, reminder to all students to walk their bikes and scooters when on school property. We have a lot of students walking and parents with strollers, so walking the wheels helps ensure that everyone is kept safe at a slower speed. Also, please ensure that your child is fully strapped in their car seats when entering or exiting the parking lot.

Thank you for your cooperation!

Friday, June 21: Indigenous Peoples Day Assembly

On Friday, June 21, we will be hosting an Indigenous Peoples Day assembly at 11:00 in the gymnasium. Parents and family members are welcome to attend! We will feature our learning of the Seven Sacred Teachings, student drumming, and finish with a circle dance to O Siem.

Last day of School: June 27

Please note that the last day of school is Thursday, June 27. Dismissal on this day is at 11:36 am.

We will be featuring our Talent Show on that morning as well, starting at 9:40 am. Parents and families are welcome to attend.

Ruben’s Shoes:

Thank you to everyone who donated shoes to this cause! We were able to get 212 donated pairs of shoes from our James Hill Families! Special thanks to Marnie Ramsdale for her work in organizing and coordinating this event!

School Supplies:

It is that time of year again that we starting thinking about next year.

Below this memo are the instructions on how to order your School Supplies for your child’s next year’s grade (also sent out via email this past week).  The list has been chosen by our teachers and put together as a package from Staples,  the company we use to order our supplies.

This is an online ordering form with a specific code for each grade.  There are two options for kits.  Option 1 has no headphones and Option 2 has headphones.  You may choose the kit you  like.  If you have headphones at home you may send those to school in the Fall with your child.  Please use your child’s name when filling out the online form so we know who to give the kit to in September.  (with parents/children with different last names it can be tricky). Thank you.

You may also go into the store to pay if you wish.  Please take the attached letter to the store  to be sure your child’s supplies arrive with the other kits.

In September your child will receive duo-tangs from their teacher and the payment will be made through School Cash Online.   (We order in bulk and we, as teachers, like the students to have the same coloured duo-tangs as it makes it easier for organizing our subjects).

DEADLINE to order is JULY 5th 2019.
