Newsletter: September 20

September 22, 2019

Dear James Hill Families,

What a great first few weeks we have had at James Hill! Students are settled in nicely into their new classrooms. Teachers have planned and taught many community-building activities to create caring, connected classes. We are seeing more artwork on the walls and the chatter and laughter in the rooms is wonderful to hear again. We have missed our students over the summer!

Breakfast Club Opens Monday, Sept. 23!

Our amazing volunteers are ready to welcome back families to our Breakfast Club. Enjoy a FREE breakfast daily and get to know more James Hill Families! Doors open at 8:00 am. Reminder to families that students need to be with an adult. All welcome!

Marvelous Mornings are Back!

Join us each morning at 8:15 in the Library Learning Commons for our Marvelous Mornings. Parents & Guardians are welcome to attend. Students will engage in different activities with staff as a soft start to the day easing them into their ‘learning brain’.

KM Club: Tuesdays and Thursdays

On fair weather days, students are invited to join us for running and walking in the back field for KM Club, starting at 2:45 pm and ending at 3:15 pm Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Visitors:

If you are visiting a classroom or picking up/dropping off your child, we do ask that you visit the office first. Please do not go straight to the classroom. For safety reasons, all visitors to the school must check-in at the office and check-out upon leaving. This ensures safety for all our students and staff. An added bonus is that you get to introduce yourself to our new administrative assistant, Mrs. Robb, and check out the ‘new look’ to our front office!

Prior to the first bell, all students should enter their classrooms using the exterior classroom doors. Please exit the Breakfast Club doors or front entrance doors if you are leaving Marvelous Mornings or Breakfast program in the morning.

Parking Lot Reminders:

Please remember the following when dropping-off/picking up your child at school:

– When using the inner DROP-OFF/PICK-UP lane, please REMAIN IN YOUR VEHICLE and pull forward as space opens up. Please do not block those behind you in the lane. All vehicles in the drop off/pick up lane should pull as far forward as possible.

– When using the middle DRIVE-THRU lane, please continue moving when safe to do so. Students should not be getting into or out of the vehicles in this lane. This lane is for moving traffic only. Drivers: please use extreme caution when in this lane.

– We have a new CROSSWALK for students and families to walk safely from the school to the parking lot. Please only cross the lanes at the crosswalk (modeling this for our children is very important). Please do not park on/over the crosswalk.

– We have several new VISITOR PARKING stalls beside the median/island. Whenever possible, please have your child enter and exit the vehicle on the driver’s side as to not block the Drive-Thru lane.

– The Yellow Lined area is a NO PARKING zone. Please do not stop, park or pick up your child in this area.

Thank you for your cooperation in making our parking lot safer for our students. We also have a great student video to help you learn the new parking lot system: https://youtu.be/IPm182PkWPw

Terry Fox Run: Thursday, September 26

To honour our Canadian hero, Terry Fox, we will have a short assembly and our annual Terry Fox Run starting at 9:45 am on Thursday. If you are able and interested in volunteering 9:30-10:30, please email Mrs. Simonetto ksimonetto@sd35.bc.ca.

Please dress your child(ren) for the weather on this day.

If you would like to make a donation to the Terry Fox Run and cancer research, please go to schoolcashonline.com to donate.

Fall weather is HERE!

The rainy days are definitely returning. We remind all families that we do try to go outside if it is raining gently. Please send your child with appropriate footwear and outerwear. It is always a good idea to keep an extra set of clothes in your child’s backpack in the chance they get wet or muddy.
