January 11, 2019

Dear James Hill Families,

Happy New Year and welcome back! We hope you all had a really relaxing holiday with family and friends. We are so excited to have the students back this week. They have shared many fabulous stories about their break and they seem happy to be back together with their friends and staff.

Today we did a fire drill before lunch time. The students did a very good job of exiting the building in a calm, quiet and orderly fashion. We were proud of their responsible, respectful behaviour during this important drill.

Our grade five students had a fun end to the week. They were invited to attend the Hometown Hockey event at HDSMS for the afternoon. Over 800 students were in attendance! It was a great community event to be part of! A special thanks to HD Stafford Middle Secondary for hosting the event!

Just a reminder that Monday, January 14 is an early dismissal day for collaboration. Students are dismissed at 1:30 pm (75 minutes early).

We also have a PAC meeting that night in the learning commons at 6:45 pm. Come join us!

Remind App: Important Changes

If you currently are signed up for the Remind App notifications from Mrs. Simonetto (James Hill Elementary), Rogers and Bell customers will no longer be able to receive the messages due to a complication with the contract between the app company and the phone companies.  This is in effect January 28, 2019.

You can still receive messages through Remind. Simply download the mobile app or enable email notifications. The Remind app team is also working hard on a solution that allows your classes to continue to use Remind by text, and they will share more details with us before January 28.

Student Absences:

Just a friendly reminder that if your child is going to be away to please call the office at 504-530-0251 or email Mrs. Holyoak at lholyoak@sd35.bc.ca before 9:00 am. There is an answering machine voicemail available to call outside out office hours as well for your convenience.

If your child is late arriving to school, please visit the office to sign in and get a late slip. If you are picking your child up early, please ensure that your child signs out at the office as well.

Our top priority is student safety and these measures ensure that we are able to keep an accurate account of the whereabouts of all our students throughout the day. Thank you for your cooperation!

Ready, Set, Learn and Kinderstarts:

February 6, 2019 10:00-11:30 am (literacy)

March 1, 2019 1:00-2:30 pm (numeracy)
